Frame Types

Different frame types are available for data transmission in a LIN network: Unconditional frame, event-triggered frame, sporadic frame and diagnostic frame. The unconditional frame is characterized in that there is exactly one sender (usually a LIN slave) for the frame response. By contrast, a number of different responses are assigned to the header of an event-triggered frame, which are sent by the relevant LIN slaves as needed. If a collision occurs, this leads to switching based on the so-called "Collision Resolving Schedule Table".

A sporadic frame represents a group of unconditional frames that share the same frame slot and transmit when there is a need. If there are multiple nodes wishing to send, the sender sequence is determined by the priorities of the unconditional frames. If no node wishes to send, the frame slot remains empty.

The two IDs 60 and 61 are used for diagnostics. The LIN frame with ID 60 is referred to as the master request frame, and it corresponds to a diagnostic request. The LIN frame with ID 61is referred to as the slave response frame, and it corresponds to a diagnostic response. The layouts of the specific responses are based on the ISO 15765 transport protocol.
